Gardens
Stretching away from the Renaissance facade is the formal French garden. The landscape gardener Achille Duchêne created it at the beginning of the 20th century, using yew and trimmed box to frame the lawns. To the left, In the moat, two Italian stone lions keep watch.
Beyond and below the rampart is the rose garden, designed in 2001 by the landscape gardener Louis Benech. 160 roses comprising 40 different varieties are interspersed with perennials.
Next, follow the alley down the slope to the English garden – a haven of green in a sheltered valley at the foot of the ramparts. Century-old trees shelter dogwoods, hydrangeas, numerous rhododendrons and several species of rare trees. Here you will also find benches and a picnic area to round off and enhance your visit to this unique domain.
